There's always a rush of excitement that goes through my body when I see the skyscrapers in New York City from the airplane above. Looking down below at the city that I used to be so foreign to me, I fall in love with the city all over again. New York City, my home. When I was younger I use to tell my family “If I could make it to NYC then my life would begin.” I didn't understand or know what I was looking for but I knew that whatever it was it was in NYC.
Returning to Brooklyn from visiting my family for Thanksgiving in New Orleans,
I didn't have a lot of down time. Hunter scheduled our Vegas trip to begin the next day. The plane leaves at 10am. I had to unpack one bag. A bag filled with good girl clothes and replace them with sexier, mistress type clothes. When I arrived to my apartment there was a dozen of beautiful red roses waiting for me outside. Gathering my bag from the taxi my heart skipped at beat. Who could they be from? Walking inside my apartment I put my bags down in my newly painted mint green room. Reaching for the card inside the flowers it simple said “Can't wait to hold you tomorrow!”
My heart skipped a beat. The only person that I was seeing tomorrow night was Hunter. How did he know where I lived? If he does know where I live does he know that I'm lying about being married? So many thoughts. So many unanswered questions.
The ringing of my cellphone interrupted my thoughts. Looking at the caller ID it was my mother
“Hi Mom.” I had to disguised my voice. My mother always knew when something was wrong. She has no idea that there is a man in my life name Hunter.
“Hey Honey. Did you get home safe.” My mother was a worrier. How she survived me living in New York alone is beyond me. “I did. I just walked in the door.” We talked a few more minutes, re-living the family gathering over the last couple of days. As usual before we got off the phone my mother said a short prayer for me and then we hang up. My heart was racing a mile a minute for so many reason.
Who in the hell sent these flowers?
As the afternoon turned into the evening I begin to relax. While I was packing my bags for Vegas I decided not to do anything about the flowers. If Hunter did know my secret he would have to reveal that information.
Excitement grew within me. I wasn't sure what the next few days would bring but like the saying goes: Whatever happens in Vegas stay's in Vegas and I plan to have a great time.
